First private screening in Canada
After 3.5 years in the making, The Fit Generation could be finally shown to a select audience at its first private screening in Canada. The screening was held at the Richmond Olympic Oval, which kindly offered access to the ROX Theatre to host two private screening sessions on 12 June 2018.
The production team and most of the senior athletes featured in the film attended the event and participated in a Q&A session after the screening. The mayor of Richmond, Malcolm Brodie, and West Vancouver City Councillor Peter Lambur were some of the honourable guests in the audience.
One of the subjects featured in this documentary is 84-year-old Gwen McFarlan, who has won numerous BC Seniors Games medals and broken several world records in marathons as a master’s athlete. Gwen was also named BC Masters Athlete of the Year in 2010 and 2012. In 2016, she was permanently inducted into the Richmond Sports Wall of Fame at the Richmond Olympic Oval.
